On June 1st and 2nd 2012 the fifth annual Dave Arguijo Memorial Skate will be held at the YMCA of Boulder Valley.
Thanks to last year's sponsors and generous donors:
April 9th, 2009 marks the one year anniversary of the passing of our dear friend and teammate Dave Arguijo who passed away at the early age of 43 due to cancer. In memory of Dave, on August 16, 2008, the first annual Dave Arguijo Memorial Skate held at the YMCA of Boulder Valley from 9:30am-2:15pm. Fifty five skaters took to the ice in memory of Dave breaking up into four teams with guest skaters from the CHL’s Rocky Mountain Rage (Daymen Rycroft, Brent Cullaton, and John Snowden), along with the University of Denver (Adam Corbitt, Mackenzie Mau, Mac Harris, and Ritchie Kendall). Each participant’s registration included a Dave Arguijo Memorial Skate T-shirt, breakfast (care of Lance and Amy Miller), coffee donated by Henk Stephan of Cino’s Coffee, and hot dogs/brats and beverages. All skaters had the opportunity to bid on silent auction items highlighted by Fury (thanks to a generous donation by Beck Forsberg of Crocs), a Brent Cullaton signed and game worn jersey (donated by Chantal and Ted McDonald), Coal Creek Golf foursomes (donated by Brent Cullaton), hotel vouchers, and a YMCA membership discount voucher (donated by Jamie Holstein of the YMCA). Countless other items were donated for the silent auction by some very generous folks which we can’t thank enough. Our one of a kind T-shirts were donated by Donna Werner of BW construction and designed and printed by John Goyer.
The countless volunteers assisting during the event included Amy Miller, Amanda Ingalls, Melissa Kellow, Ruth Ann Sullivan, Kevin Carter, Mike Hankins, Scott Noble, and Steve O’Dell, who without their help we would not have been able to pull it off! Kevin Sheets of the YMCA donated two hours of ice time, discounted ice time and the use of a room for the silent auction. The highlight of the day was the presence of Deb Arguijo and sons Randy and Jemeson at the event. All in all the first annual Dave Arguijo Memorial Skate was not only a huge success but a testament to Dave’s presence short time here with us and the generocity of the hockey community to step up to the plate when one of their own requires a helping hand. For this we thank each and every one of you for participating.
Another successful tournament brought six teams, over 30 sponsors, donors, loads of friends, families and fans to the Boulder Valley YMCA in Lafayette.
The two day event started with 3 competitive games Friday night and rolled into a full day of hockey on Saturday, which included great food, comoradorie, and a silent auction showcasing the tremendous generosity of our donors.
This marked the first year where team as well as individual entry was permitted. In a tight contest Team Rocket Skate edged out Team Dave to claim the 2010 DA III Cup. An exciting and rewarding weekend of ice hockey it was with a host of volunteers assisting in making this tournament run smoothly once again.
As we reflect back on the Dave Arguijo Memorial Tournament III for 2010 we want to thank all of our sponsors, participants and volunteers for if it not for you none of this would be possible. As we strive for excellence in 2011 for the 4th Annual Dave Arguijo Memorial Tournament we keep in mind why we do this because Dave Arguijo the husband, father, son, co-worker, friend, and teammate will never be forgotten.

It is hard to believe that the Second Annual Dave Arguijo Memorial Skate for 2009 is now in the rearview mirror as we look towards 2010. The participants who played this year and the veterans who returned from last year get all the credit, for without you, this day would not have happened! Many of you who came out did not know Dave Arguijo but the fact that the hockey community can come together in a time of need for one of its own speaks volumes. With that being said we offer a heart felt THANKS!
Due to popular demand we expanded our four team format to six teams with each team skating two games a piece. Joining over 60 local hockey players were VIP skaters Daymen Rycroft and Scott Wray of the CHL Rocky Mountain Rage and former NHL St. Louis Blues player Peter Senja. It was an honor to skate along side Daymen, Scott, and Peter. Our skate wrapped up with a perfect ending to a great day… a victory by Team ‘Dave’.
Year two once again brought many generous donations. The YMCA donated two hours of ice time, discounted ice and a room for our Silent Auction thanks to Jamie Holstein. Three Brothers Printing (Dave and Mike Patterson) donated one hour of ice time despite being unable to play. Scott Noble of Rocket Skate helped to cover the cost of this year’s t-shirts which were designed by John Goyer. The Brewing Market provided coffee with all the fixings and Steve Pottenger of WorkWell Occupational Medicine helped defray our food costs. Finally, we were joined this year by two massage therapists Cara McCreary of The Denver School of Massage and Amanda Marsh of Physiotherapy & Associates both providing body work to all of our participants.
Some of the items donated for our silent auction included a signed Joe Sakic stick and Colorado Avalanche tickets care of Adam Becker of Kroenke Sports, Rocky Mountain Rage jerseys, hats and shirts donated by the Rocky Mountain Rage care of Daymen Rycroft, Mile High Music Festival Tickets donated by Kroenke Sports and Entertainment spearheaded by Wayne Granger, University of Denver Club Ice Hockey jerseys care of Adam Corbitt and Ritchie Kendall, hockey equipment donated by Kevin Pucket of The Playoff, gift certificates for massage from Physiotherapy & Associates, as well as Denver School of Massage, skate sharpenings and children’s t-shirts donated by Chris Birch, hotel rooms by the Spring Suite Inn, gift certificates for food from The Outback and the list goes on and on. All in all we can’t thank these donors enough for supplying us with our silent auction items!
The volunteers who stepped up to the plate during the DA II made things runs effortlessly and without their help this event would not have happened. Our silent auction coordinators Amy Miller and Amanda Ingalls worked tirelessly. Once again our breakfast burritos were a hit – thanks to the burrito making crew including Amy, Amanda, Lance, Earl and Scott. Our resident chef/photographer Kevin Carter slaved over the grill, while assisted by Mike Hankins. The Garden ran smoothly with the help of Greg Lund. Thanks also goes out to our cookie selling queens Kaitlyn Sullivan and Eliana Miller. We could not have made it without the help of Chris Birch who assisted with the scoreboard and clock and our six referees who donated their time and effort organized by Ken Taggart. Others who played a significant role included Ruth Ann Sullivan, the Kellow family, and Steve O’Dell. Scott Noble of Rocket Skate also served as a drop off site for registration and organized the teams and schedule. Thank you Scott! We can't forget about our Zamboni drivers who gave us a clean sheet of ice to skate on throughout the day.
Finally the day would not have been complete had it not been for special guests Deb Arguijo, daughter Meghan, and sons Randy and Jameson. Their presence was greatly appreciated and admired.
As we look back on 2009 we reflect upon why this memorial skate was organized, to celebrate the life of Dave Arguijo who was not only a teammate and friend but loving husband and father. Dave’s legacy will live on and we have all intentions of organizing the DA III in 2010 so keep your calendars open.
Cheers,
Lance Miller, Earl Ingalls, and Scott Sullivan
